DEMO

Software

The DEMO version provides users an illustrative application for the U.S. household projection for all races combined from 2000 to 2050. The primary purposes of this DEMO are to help users get familiar with household projection using ProFamy method and to evaluate the software. There is no time limit for the evaluation of the software. This DEMO version has full function except the module of BasePop Preparation under the menu tree  “Data Preparation”. If users use the U.S. household projection for all races combined from 2000 to 2050 produced by this DEMO version in their research or projects, they need to make an acknowledgement (as indicated in the footnote of the ProFamy User’s Guide) in any research papers, reports, or other publications. Users can download this DEMO version free of charge upon registration and login. If users wish to compute household projection by race or by state, purchase of relevant products at the ORDER webpage.

Terms and conditions

AGREEMENT BETWEEN USER AND Household Consumption & Forecasting, Inc.

I wish to obtain a free copy of the package of ProFamy (trial version) software & the U.S. database (basic version). I will provide feedback to the ProFamy project team about the ProFamy package’s merits and drawbacks, as well as suggestions/ recommendations for improving its ease of use by contacting the ProFamy project team at support@profamy.com. I understand that I may use the trial version in my business for benefits and/or policy analysis and/or research/training. I will appropriately acknowledge the ProFamy method/software in publication(s) and/or written report(s) for which it was used (as indicated in the footnote of the ProFamy User’s Guide). I fully understand that I am not allowed to reproduce or distribute the trial & basic version of the ProFamy package to anyone, and will comply with these restrictions; I will refer interested parties to the ProFamy Website. Online DEMO database

This online DEMO database includes three components: input database, summary output, and figures & pyramids. Note that the online DEMO output database is only available for the U.S. as a whole with all races combined, corresponding to the application in the DEMO software. If users want to customize the table to view projected outputs by race or by state, they must pay for the corresponding cost. Please refer to ORDER.

Input database

The DEMO input database contains an input file (with file extension “.PRD”) for projection and a BasePop file (with file extension “.bpo”) for the starting year.

  • The input file contains projection design (e.g., starting year, ending year, data type available, etc.), standard schedules (e.g., age-sex-specific mortality rate, marital status transition occurrence/exposure(o/e) rate, fertility rate, migration rate, institutionalization proportions , etc.), summary measures (e.g., life expectancy at birth, general rates of marriage/union formation or dissolution, mean ages at first marriage and birth, mean age at children leaving home, etc.), and the population and household distributions at the starting year. These parameters correspond with the projection provided by the DEMO software input file. (Note: If users want to prepare their own ProFamy input file or BasePop file, please refer to Chapter 3 in user’s guide that is attached in the DEMO software. Please also note that the DEMO version has no functions to prepare for the input file or BasePop file. Users need to purchase the software if they want to do so. Please refer to ORDER.)
  • The BasePop file contains the population and household distribution by age, sex, size/type, etc. This BasePop file is included in the input file and in the DEMO software package.

Users can download both DEMO input file and BasePop file free of charge as long as they register at this website and login. If these two files are used in research or projects, please acknowledge ProFamy indicated in the footnote of the ProFamy User’s Guide in any publications or reports.

Summary outputs

The online DEMO summary outputs provide users with online tables for projected outputs in terms of household, elderly living arrangements, and population, corresponding to the illustrative projection in the DEMO version of ProFamy package. If the users want to access to customized tables of projected outputs by race or by state, they must pay for the corresponding cost. Please refer to ORDER webpage.

  • There are four types of tables for projected household outputs in the online DEMO database: “number of households by type”, “percentage distribution of households by type”, “number of household by size”, and “percentage distribution of household by size”.
  • For elderly living arrangements, there are three types of tables in the online DEMO database: “percentage of the elderly among total”, “number of the elderly”, and “percentage of the elderly within age groups”.
  • There are two types of tables for projected population output in the online DEMO database: “summary statistics” and “population dynamics”.
  • In few cases, users need to stretch the rightmost column of the table to see the whole number if it is not correctly shown.

Please note that users need to click “Get Data” button at the right side of the page every time in order to view the selected outputs.

Any one who visits this website (no registration is required) can exports all these projected summary outputs free of charge by right click mouse and saving as excel files. If these outputs are used in research or projects, please acknowledge ProFamy as indicated in the footnote of the ProFamy User’s Guide in any publications or reports.

Figures & pyramids

The online DEMO figures & pyramids provide users with graphic view of projected outputs for the elderly by living arrangement, population, and pyramids by marital status.

  • There are two types of charts for projected elderly living arrangements in online DEMO database: “percentage distribution of the elderly among total population by living arrangement”, and “percentage distribution of the elderly with age group by living arrangement”. For the latter type, users can view the results by age and sex.
  • There are three types of graphs for population output in the online DEMO database: “population size in million”, “percentage of the elderly aged 65+”, and “percentage of the elderly aged 85+”.
  • Pyramids by marital status provide users with graphic representation of a population’s age-sex composition by marital status in the projected years. Users can choose different forecast years to display the pyramids.

Users can save these graphs for their own use. However, an acknowledgement (as indicated in the footnote of the ProFamy User’s Guide) is required.
